WHAT IS A QMS?

  • What is a Quality Information System (QIS)? It is the totality of information technology (application software, system software, middleware, networks, databases, etc.) that you use to support quality management in your organization: particularly, the IT that enables the creation, management, and control of quality documents and records and helps to turn large volumes of raw data into useful information that aids the fulfillment of product/service-related requirements of customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.  It includes everything from tools that coordinate workflow to analytics.  It can also be referred to as "QMS software" or "e-QMS".  It is the IT that helps enable your QMS.

  • What is a Quality Management System (QMS)? It is the totality of quality enablers within your organization.  The QMS is the structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes, and resources that enable your organization to consistently: (a) establish quality policy and quality objectives, (b) achieve those objectives, (c) direct, control, and ensure the fulfillment of product/service-related requirements, and (d) drive continuous improvement of product/service safety and performance, stakeholder satisfaction, and other measures of quality.
